Why paint plants?

Since moving to Rooiels a year ago I have been surrounded by the most incredible energy of nature.

My curiosity has been stimulated by the rich and diverse plant life all around me. I started painting the plants that magnetized me the most. I did this with love and care whilst bringing in the element of my interpretation of play with colour and mark making.

The discovery, and then selection of each individual plant, is influenced by its effect on my imagination. I then spend a lot of intimate time with each plant, painting it onto canvas, where I find joy in every leaf and every little root. These plants seem to sing and dance in front of me. It is these little joys that excite my soul.
