Trees have been a source of inspiration, admiration and creativity for me since I was a child. I grew up spending many a day in and under a huge Natal Mahogony tree. We used to call it “The Big Tree” and it became my “Magic Far Away Tree” where I could escape into another world. My large trees each have their own worlds inside them. I create this by using stencils and many glazed layers.
The colours of nature are incredibly varied which I find extremely exciting. Each little plant is an inspiration unto itself. Every one is uniquely individual, although belonging to the same family. All plants roots twist and turn downwards towards the heart of the earth, searching for it’s life force. The stem, reaches up proudly, stretching towards the light, capturing life giving energy that allows it to show off its magical presence in this world. I find them endlessly fascinating.
Nature is where I replenish energy spent. Whether I am in the Namib desert with endless space, walking in the ever magical fynbos or swimming in the healing sea, my soul flies. Nature inspires me and I try to capture the feelings it evokes in me on canvas, paper or any other medium that tickles my fancy.
